Homework: Is it benificial or harmful?
I’ve never really been a fan of homework so I always try my best to turn in my work on time so I don’t have to worry about it. Sometimes when teachers do give out homework, it makes me feel a sense of dread knowing that I have extra work to do when I get home. It feels unbearable and I end up with a pile of homework to do. I understand that homework can be helpful but when you get home after 5:30 and have to do homework and chores at 7:00, it’s difficult to keep up.
Studies show that homework can help students with their time management. It helps students focus their time and make sure their assignments are due on time. Along with time management, students can also learn problem solving skills and independent thinking. Even though they learn all these skills, there are also some downsides to it. Research shows that excessive homework can increase stress levels, and physical health problems like sleep deprivation, weight loss, stomach problems and headaches.
Although a lot of students can do their homework, some students don’t have the time or the materials to do the work. Their families might also have some personal problems that prevent them from doing their work. Then by not doing their homework, they get stressed out during the day trying to get it done and get behind on other assignments.
Both opinions on homework are good but I personally think that homework doesn’t do anything but stress kids out and puts strain on them as part of their daily routine. Solution to this problem could be to make sure you use your time wisely at school so that you don’t have to worry about homework at home.
