Band of Warriors Rocks “Battle of the Flowers” Competition
Thursday, April 27th, the Band of Warriors made history, becoming the first Comal ISD band to ever participate in the festival, also winning 1st place in 5A division & receiving the chairman’s award.
The San Antonio Fiesta “Battle of the Flowers” Parade is an annual event held during the city’s historical Fiesta celebration. According to the Battle of the Flowers official website, the event is “the oldest and longest running marching Band Festival in the country”, featuring local high schools competing in a spirit display of music and pageantry.
This year’s competition theme was Flowers, “Where Fiesta Reigns!” Fittingly enough, the band traveled together to the Alamo Stadium and performed the song “Flowers” by Miley Cirus, a piece composed by the band’s director itself, Mr. Berry.
“Students had a busy but rewarding week,” writes Mr. Berry, ”a theme for the next few weeks as we close out the semester after a very successful year.”
The students practiced their drill for hours each evening after school, determined to prove themselves the “most spirited” of the competing bands.
Though the students and directors recognize that this may be the first and last time our band will participate in the festival, this fact only served to drive the band forward in their efforts to win, and left a lasting impact as “that one second-year band.”
