Mrs. Sanchez chosen as “Teacher of the Year”

“The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.” -William Arthur Ward

Every year, Comal ISD honors extraordinary teachers who go out of their way to impact students and coworkers. They are nominated by their peers for going beyond and helping their campuses grow. On our campus, Mrs. Sanchez was awarded Teacher of the Year for the 2022-2023 school year.

To honor these teachers, an annual Teacher of the Year banquet, A Night of Stars, occurred on Monday, May 15. The program included choir performances, dinner, and an awards ceremony.

“I am really fortunate to be acknowledged for my dedication and love for building community,” Mrs.Sanchez said.

Mrs.Sanchez is a new teacher to our district, but won this award at a previous teaching position, making her a two-time Teacher of the Year recipient, as well as twice earning “Community Member of the Month” through different districts.

“Getting these awards is nice, but teaching is a passion. You have to believe in community to be a good teacher.”

In her community, Mrs.Sanchez goes out of her way to create lasting relationships with her students, and includes different learning styles within her classroom.

“I teach from multiple angles, because I realize not everybody learns from the same one. This allows for more creativity and abstract thought.”

Mrs.Sanchez has been teaching ELA courses for 22 years, covering grades 7-11. Next year will be her first year teaching AP and Academic English to 12th graders.

“I believe I became an educator to use all the gifts that I have for a great purpose in the lives of others and in my own life so I can know when I leave this world I used them all and did something with everything I was given,” Mrs. Sanchez said.
